Name:Howard Stark
Birthdate:Aug 15, 1917
Location:New York, United States

"What if I told you that in just a few short years, your autmomobile won't even have to touch the ground at all?"

The Present

Howard Anthony Walter Stark. An eccentric, playboy inventor to the public, he's known for displays like his flying car at the Stark Expo. Privately, he's the SSR's top engineer and a founding member of SHIELD. Doing his part during the war, he works on the Manhattan Project and what he would jokingly refer to later as the "Brooklyn Project", a.k.a. the Super Soldier Project. He becomes friends with Steve Rogers, alternately in awe of America's golden boy and amused by his lack of worldly sophistication.

"I did say a few years, didn't I?"

Fascinated with the ever-expanding field of technology he works in, he's also frustrated by the limits that the present holds on pushing it ever further. He has big plans for the future.

"Just keep looking."

The Future

Some men are able to bounce back from war, continuing on with their lives like nothing has ever happened. Others....don't. Howard's personality changed after WWII ended, and not for the better. Withdrawing into a icy, unfeeling shell, he pushed Stark Industries to become bigger and better than ever before. If he felt a pang of nostalgia for the past or the need to express the emotions buried within, he simply locked himself in his study and drank himself into a stupor.

Keeping him from going completely into a downward tailspin was his wife Maria. She kept him from completely embracing his public persona, keeping what was left of the warm, funny, and loyal man she had married from disappearing entirely.

Nick Fury: "What do you remember about your father?"
Tony Stark: "He was cold, calculating, never told me he loved me, didn't even tell me that he
liked me, so it's a bit hard for me to digest that he said the whole future is riding on me thing. You're talking about a man whose happiest day of his life was shipping me off to boarding school."

While Howard loved his wife Maria and his son Tony very much, he was the first to admit he just wasn't cut out for fatherhood. He often told himself, if he wasn't so busy, if he didn't have to attend just one more corporate meeting or social function, he'd spend more time with them both. It never happened.

"Tony, you're too young to understand this right now, so I thought I would put it on film for you. I built this for you. And some day you'll realise that it represents a whole lot more than people's inventions. It represents my life's work. This is the key to the future. I'm limited by the technology of my time, but one day you'll figure this out. And when you do, you will change the world. What is, and always will be, my greatest creation... is you."

Howard could see how bright Tony was and knew that he was the key to the future Howard had envisioned, the one where a Stark would hold the power of technology no one else on Earth could dream of. He made sure to leave behind all the clues Tony would need, and though it was a hard message for him to get out, something to remind Tony that he loved him. It was fortunate he did. Howard and Maria died in a car crash when Tony was 17 years old.
